This rock opera, when produced in 1971, gave musical theatre a facelift with its vibrant rock sounds telling the story of the last 7 days of the life of Jesus Christ. The sacred themes are fused with ancient political history and modern styles; rock rhythms with ballad narrative, dramatic characterization with rollicking choreography and operatic performances that paradoxically succeed in creating a humble theme of love and acceptance.
